Food Systems Non-State Actor Call to Action

In 2023, the JRT Secretariat in partnership with the Climate Champions Team and many in the JRT community supported the development of the Non-State Actor Call to Action for Transforming Food Systems for People, Nature and Climate. This effort was launched by Razan Al Mubarak, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP28.  

The Food Systems Call to Action mobilises collective efforts around a shared vision of food systems that deliver significant, measurable progress for people, nature, and climate by 2030. Through this shared agenda, we aim to scale action, raise ambition, and unlock the potential of food systems as one of the main solutions for people, nature, and climate. 

The JRT Secretariat is a member of the Food Systems Call to Action Working Group, in partnership with the Climate Champions Team and Ambition Loop. We are working together with a diverse and growing network of endorsers – entities representing farmers, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, civil society, consumers, businesses, philanthropy, cities, and more.   

Together, we are calling for governments to take ambitious action to transform agriculture and food systems, in line with the Emirates Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action. We also seek greater visibility of the needs and contributions of farmers and frontline food systems actors in a just transition and widespread recognition of the central role they play in transforming food systems to deliver positive outcomes for people, nature, and climate.
